Helping local people to care for each other and to plan ahead for the future

Aims and Objectives

The Eleanor Palmer Trust Residential Home provides accommodation where sensitive and skilful care is available for people who, even with help, are unable to live in homes of their own.

The aim is to enable users to live as normally as possible in an environment where their individuality, independence and personal dignity are respected provided always that this does not affect the quality of life or safety of others.

All residents have the right to lead a life that is as satisfying as possible in their own terms; to have their needs met with dignity, privacy and humanity; to participate fully should they so wish in decisions about arrangements for daily living; to take risks and be responsible for their own behaviour; to have opportunities to use general community resources such as hospital, dental, optical leisure and recreation and educational services.

It is our intention to meet the emotional, social and physical needs of frail older people in a home-like environment that respects their independence, protects their status as adults and encourages their individuality.  Our overall aim is always to provide care that responds to the needs of people as individuals.

Statement of Purpose

The Eleanor Palmer Trust recognises that social activity and recreational opportunity play an important part in our residents well being.  Therefore we place an importance on ensuring that a range of opportunities are available which each resident can choose from.  The following systems, facilities and arrangements are in place to aid this:

Management – The management and co-ordination of an activities programme is a role shared jointly by the Manager (external activities) and Team Manager (in house activities)  A named member of staff may be identified  to run a particular activity or group.

Facilities – The main lounge is utilised for activities involving the majority of the resident group (music, theatre shows etc).  For smaller groups, or where an individual wishes to pursue a hobby in a quiet area, then another room will be available within the home for such use.

Publicising - A list of in-house activities will be published every 2 – 4 weeks, a copy being placed on the main notice board. Special events, outings and professional entertainment etc. will be highlighted both on the notice board and in the monthly newsletter.

Targets - We aim to offer a varied programme and in many cases have to restrict the numbers able to access any specific activity.  We set the following targets which we feel are achievable ;

  1. To arrange at least two events per year which allows residents to invite their families.
  2. To present at least two musical/theatrical events that are accessible to all residents within the home.
  3. To organise some form of activity on a daily basis, at least two per week being accessible to all who wish to take part (bingo, quiz etc).
  4. To organise some form of activity on a daily basis, at least two per week being accessible to all who wish to take part
    (bingo, quiz etc)
  5. All major festivals will be acknowledged.

Funding - We will not make a charge to residents for any staff support.

Support - We welcome the support of families etc. in delivering a varied programme.  Volunteers offering practical help in putting on activities are always welcome.
