Guidelines for volunteers
 |
Social activity and recreational opportunity play an important part in the well-being of the elderly residents of Cantelowes House. This promotes mental and physical exercise to maintain stimulation and minimise boredom.
Visitors are encouraged and made welcome.
We appreciate help from anyone who would like to contribute their time and skills in a variety of ways:
|
- Helping to run a particular activity such as board games, bingo, quizzes, etc.
- Entertaining residents with music, theatre shows, etc.
- Teaching a hobby such as Tai Chi, painting, making greetings cards, etc.
- Accompanying and assisting with external events such as theatre trips, seaside visits, pub lunches, etc.
- Contributing interesting and relevant stories and photos for the monthly newsletter
- Helping to organise celebrations of major festivals
- Presenting an interesting talk, such as on the history of Barnet, bird watching, etc.
We aim to keep costs to a minimum and there is no charge for staff support.
We welcome the support of families and friends in delivering a varied programme for our residents. Volunteers offering practical help in putting on activities are always welcome.
Anyone volunteering to help on a regular basis is subject to the same recruitment, induction and training standards as our regular staff to ensure compliance with our policies and procedures.
We have the same moral, ethical and legal duties to our volunteers as we do to members of our own team. |
